Following the end of the exhilarating round 1 match of the FIFA Club World Cup, the Croatian head coach of Al Ain FC Zoran Mamic stated that his team has written a new historical record to be added to their great records full of honourable achievements. “I am so proud of my players and their determination and fighting spirit that led them to achieve the desired goal and qualify to the quarter final stage when they were able to win the guest team, New Zealand’s Team Wellington,” Zoran said in the post-match press conference.
Zoran hailed the intense fans’ support pre, during and even post the match while stressing “Al Ain’s fans contributed significantly to such a victory and qualification through their fantastic constant support of the players from their standings, besides the creative initiatives they conducted prior the kick-off whistle.”

Al Ain FC head coach underlined that football does not recognize the word “impossible” and its results are unpredictable. “We missed the factors of concentration and confidence in certain parts of the match giving the opponent the chance to take the lead by three clean goals. However, Shiotani’s goal in the last minutes of the first half gave us the push and the power to return to the match and the team’s reaction was up to the expectations.”

On reasons behind excluding Sweden’s Marcus Berg from the starting IV list, he explained: “Marcus suffered from a virus and caught flue accompanied by high fever and his teammate Yahiya Nader suffered from the same symptoms. Indeed, I was obliged to exclude Yahiya due to his sever health condition. The medical team tried their best to make Berg ready for the match, and therefore we let him play in the last minutes and he was up to it and scored the most important goal for the team.”
