Majid Al Owais: We Are the Big Losers and Thanks to the Decision of Canceling of the League and President’s Cup Matches

The Boss Kicks Off the Preseason Summer Camp by Conducting Medical Checkups Early July

In a press statement made to Al Ain Club official website, H.E. Majid Al Owais, Board Member of Al Ain Football Club Company, stated that the decision was made to kick off the team’s preseason summer camp as of mid-July until early August 2020 and the first phase would be held in Al Ain City. He also stated that the camp would be commenced once all medical checkups are completed.

Al Owais added: “During the first phase, the team would play two friendly matches prior kicking off the second phase scheduled to start by early August in Abu Dhabi and would last for two weeks. During these two weeks, the team is scheduled to play four matches per the request made by Pedro Emmanuel.”

Commenting on the question about the decision to cancel the away camp this season, he said: “The positive indicators achieved by our beloved homeland in combating of Covid-19 pandemic. Indeed, thanks to the wisdom and statesmanship in handling the situation, their close follow-up for all the details, adopting the highest standards of preventive and precautionary measures, and the dedicated efforts exerted by our first defense line and soldiers, the UAE turned to be the best haven for the team in terms of readiness and the safest country to hold our summer camp given the current conditions facing the whole world. Considering all the factors above, the decision has been made to hold the summer camp at home in both Al Ain and Abu Dhabi unless new developments occur.”

As for the decision to cancel the league, he pointed out: “Absolutely, Al Ain is the most severely affected by the decision to cancel both the league and the President’s Cup. We were the close rivals to win both titles. Had they decided to resume the matches of both competitions, Al Ain would have been coronated with the two trophies and qualify to the AFC Champions League 2021 directly instead of playing the playoff stage.”

He concluded by stating: “This is why our position was crystal-clear. We requested to resume the two competitions as per the adopted regulations while taking into account the public interest.”
