Portuguese head coach of Al Ain Team highlighted that the upcoming clash match against Al Wahda is a special one as it will be a “Derby” match between two strong teams who try their best on the pitch and won the game.

In the pre-match press conference dedicated for the “Derby” match against Al Wahda, Pedro stated: “I hope Al Ain fans who will not be with us in the stadium will enjoy the match at their homes and would assure them that we will do our best to win the match three points.”

He added: “We know that Al Wahda Team kicked off the new season strongly, and indeed they play well. However, we are playing at home, although we witnessed many changes to the team’s starting lineup due to many absences for injuries and red cards, which is part of the game. On the other hand, we will select a strong lineup for the clash match, and we will fight to win the guests with all due respect to our opponent. We know well our opponent who enjoys an aggressive frontline, but we know how to minimize their impact. We will play as we did in our recent two matches while focusing on winning the three points of the match.”

As for the players who are not expected to play the Derby match, he said that the situation is still unclear and that he will evaluate the players’ conditions during the upcoming two days and then take the appropriate decision.

He went on to say: “Some players were out of the lineup and will try to involve them, yet it is all about being ready 100%. It is important to know that I have full confidence in my players who will play the Derby match, and most importantly, it is not all about the individual player but the whole team’s performance.”

Pedro pointed out that despite the team’s ineffective kickoff, the team is doing their best to keep up the excellent job and focusing on winning the three points of each match they play. He also added, “this is our main objective, and we will do what we are meant to do. The players are highly enthusiastic, and all of us know that it is an important match. It is a derby match, and both teams have equal chances 50/50, but we will try our best to make it in our favor and snatch the three points.”

Pedro also availed the opportunity to address a message to the fans where he stated: “Derby matches are always difficult ones considering that this the 71st Derby, but unfortunately we will play it without our fans, considering that we are playing at home. Their presence gives us the energy and power we need to keep going. We all need their influential power, i.e., players, staff, and even the coach. However, it will not be possible this time.”

“We will play to win and put a smile on the face of fans and the city as well; it is a significant thing for me. Everybody knows well that we play to win and hold an advanced sport in the standing table, and soon we will be placed in the first spot, which is our key objective,” he said.

He also stated that if everyone exerted sincere efforts by 100%, “we will be so close to winning the three points. This is what exactly will ask the players to do. We all believe in our team’s potentials and the players’ quality skills. We believe that we can do it if we work together hand in hand.”

He concluded his statement by saying, “We will keep going and keep it up in the league and play in balance. All teams are similar in terms of classification and will prove that we are pushing ourselves to the limit. We will finish our journey in the league while we are placed in the first spot.”
