Garrido: We Deserved Better than Losing to Al Hilal
In the post-match press conference of round 5 match of ACL 2019 between Al Ain and Al Hilal, the head coach of Al Ain stated that the actual analysis of football matches is summarized by the final result of the match. “We conceded a quick goal that gave the home team the upper hand and the opportunity to dominate the match. However, in the second half we did well and had several chances to score but we failed to turn them into goals,” Juan Carlos stated.
He added: “Both teams presented great performance on the pitch, but I still have the feeling that my team was able to achieve better result. By the end of the day, once you miss to score taking advantage of easy chances you will not be able to achieve a positive result. I also would like to avail this opportunity to congratulate Al Hilal for the victory and qualifying to the last 16-team stage.”
Commenting on a question whether the result of the first leg match had a negative impact on the team’s performance in the return match, he said: “We did not take the past match result in consideration as much as we focused on this match and win its three points. I was asking my players to show their genuine fighting spirit during the whole minutes of the match.”
On the shocking poor performance of the team in the current ACL 2019, he said: “Actually, we are experiencing hard times reflected on the team’s performance and I have to admit that we are not at the best of our times.” Garrido concluded by saying that we are focusing now on reserving the team’s qualifying card to next ACL 2020.
