Al Ain’s temp Croatian coach Josip Španjić expressed his happiness for making his first win over Al Ahli with Al Ain hoping it will span over the coming games; “Al Ain deserved the win; it’s the best performing team in the league, but they failed to translate the opportunities into goals; that was their main issue, though they scored twice today,” he commented in his post-match press conference.
He appreciated his players for maintaining a high degree ofattentiveness over 90 minutes; “The players’ strong personality inside the pitch was a key enabler to their win today,” he said.
He also pointed out that he had applied the same tactic which allowed Al Ain to fare well during the AFC Champions League games by relying on Omar Abdurrahman, Caio and Danilo to lead the offensive line.
“I felt worried when Al Ahli secured the equalizer, but never my confidence in the players was shaken; they were determined and proved to be up to my confidence by winning the challenge at the last minute and to come back with 3 points from Dubai,” he added.
Josip believed that Al Ain must always win the remaining games without paying attention to its rivals’ scores if it needs to complete for the AGL title though it is lagging by 7 points behind the first runner. “I think today’s victory will incentivize the players especially that there are still 30 points to compete for, but they must not waste any of them,” he believed.
Commenting on Zlatko’s watching the match from the stands, Josip said: “In fact, we dedicate today’s win to Zlatko.”
