Under the Patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed, Mohammed Khalfan Al Romaithi Crowned Al Ain with the Arabian Gulf League Shield

Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi, Honorary President of the UAE Football Association, H.E. Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Romaithi, Chairman of the General Authority for Sports, crowned Al Ain with the Arabian Gulf League Shield for the 13th times in the Club’s history following the end of Al Ain’s match against Al Dhafra in the last round of the Arabian Gulf League, which ended by 5-0 in favor of the “Boss”.

The coronation ceremony was attended by H.E. Marwan bin Ghalaita, President of UAE Football Association, H.E. Ghanem Mubarak Al Hajeri, Chairman of Al Ain Club Football Company, Hamad bin Nukhirat Al Ameri, Managing Director of Al Ain Sports and Cultural Club, and H.E. Abdullah Nasser Al Junaibi, Vice President of UAE Football Association and Chairman of the Professional League Committee.

Al Ain Wins Al Dhafra by 5-0 and Berg is AGL Top Scorer

In the presence of 13,411 spectators, Al Ain managed to overcome Al Dhafra with five clean goals. Marcus Berg scored his person “Super Hattrick” and topped the scorers of AGL with a total of 25 goals and a goal scored by Ibrahim Diaky.

Marcus Berg opened the scoring in the 25th minute, converting Ahmed Barman’s cross from the left wing with a first touch into the bottom corner to net his 22nd goal of the campaign.

The Swede turned from scorer to creator as he crossed for Ibrahim Diaky to sweep home Al Ain’s second of the night in the 67th minute.

The hosts’ festivities continued when Berg doubled his tally three minutes later. The striker was left with a simple tap-in from point-blank after Rayan Yaslam got on the end of Mohamed Ahmed’s header and squared for the Swede inside the six-yards-box.

Al Ain’s number nine was not finished yet, as he completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot six minutes before the final whistle.

Berg made it 25 goals of the campaign to round off the scoring with Al Ain’s fifth of the night after finishing off Hussein El Shahat’s cross from the right wing.

Despite the five-goal reversal, Al Dhafra confirmed their place in next season’s Arabian Gulf League after their relegation rivals Emirates fell to a 2-2 draw against Al Nasr.

Amoory Lifts the 13th Shield

Following the end of match whistle, celebrations and festivities of all Ainawis commenced in preparation to be crowned with the 13th Shield of Arabian Gulf League. The coronation ceremony kicked off by granting the gold medals starting with the head Coach Zoran Mamic and his assistant staff, and then the team’s stars and lastly the Captain of the team, Amoory, who received the shield from H.E. Mohammed Khalfan Al Romaithi. The coronation event accompanied by a stunning display of fireworks that entertained all the spectators who interacted with the players, their families and children by chanting their names and signing the traditional songs expressing their deep joy of this big and unforgettable occasion.

Match Accompanying Activities

Prior the kickoff of the match, Abu Dhabi Police staged a military parade in the middle of the field forming the number 13 symbolizing the 13th Shield won by Al Ain Club. Then police band members demonstrated other formations that attracted the attention and stratification of the spectators. Following the military parade, people of determination who were crowned as Olympics champions of the championship held in Abdu Dhabi recently were honored by representatives of PLC.

During the break of the first half, Abu Dhabi First Bank staff distributed the “Boss’” jerseys to the spectators innovatively using cannons designed for this purpose. The spectators interacted with the innovative method nicely. Additionally, Medeor exhibited skills of controlling the ball.
