Portuguese Goncalo Bexiga has been officially appointed as the Club’s Head of Scouting in line with the improvement procedures adopted by the Al Ain Football Club Company to boost the key performance indicators at all levels, from First Team to Academy.

David Platt emphasized the importance of building a new Scouting Department and empowering its staff to focus on quality and talented players available in Al Ain City, UAE and Internationally.

He stated that Al Ain City, the beating heart of the Club, has a number of talented players who also have the passion for the football club that we desire. In addition, he stated that this appointment will broaden the quality and quantity of our international search for players of the standard required at Al Ain FC.

“The new department will have scouts and analysts whose main focus will be on identifying talented players to recruit, as well as analyzing the performance of the Al Ain team’s players,” the Sports Director stated.

He expressed his sincerest pleasure to have Goncalo Bexiga as a new member of the Al Ain Club family stating “Goncalo has extensive experience of scouting internationally for one of the biggest clubs in the world, and perhaps the number 1 club in the world in regard to the scouting of young talent, Benfica. He has worked as a senior international scout for them covering markets such as Asia, Africa and Brazil, and has lived and worked in Africa and the Middle East previously so also has a good working knowledge of the region.

I’m sure his vast local and international experience, combined with bringing best practice in scouting processes from Benfica, will combine well with the Al Ain DNA to push our club forward in it’s ability to identify and attract top quality playing talent. We welcome him to the Al Ain FC family and look forward to a bright future for our new scouting department under his leadership.

David Platt signed off while wishing him all the best of success in his new position.
