Al Ain FC lost the quarterfinal match of the Arabian Gulf Cup held on Friday 28th December 2018 at Tahnoun Bin Mohamed Stadium
Bani Yas secured their spot in the semi-final of the UAE Gulf Cup after earning a 1-0 win over Al Ain. Bani Yas’ Haboush scored his team only goal at “68”, while Al Ain missed numerous opportunities to score and finish the match early.

Al Ain exerted high pressure on Bani Yas from depth and flanks to trap the opponent in their area and adopt a compact defense. Al Ain was about to score but Yas keeper Mohamed Ahmed Alhammadi pulled off a save to deny Al Ain forward Jamal Marouf and Marcus Berg from opening the scoring in the sixth minute.

On the other side of the field, Pedro Conde came close to giving his side a 1-0 lead five minutes before the break, but his shot lacked accuracy and went wide.

Al Ain’s Egyptian midfielder Husain Elshahat tried his luck few minutes later but also failed to find the back of the net as they headed into halftime deadlocked at 0-0.

Seven minutes after the restart, Al Ain’s Swedish forward wasted another chance to give his side a 1-0 advantage as his shot went above the bar.

Bani Yas managed to find the back of the net in the 68th minute as Haboosh Saleh netted what turned out to be the winner for the Sky Blues. Haboosh passed the ball to Pedro Conde who set up the former with a smart backheel pass, and Haboosh slotted home to give his side a 1-0 lead.

Al Ain attempted to level the scoreline but failed to cause enough threat to Bani Yas. Berg, however, had a golden chance to net a late equalizer, but his shot in the 89th minute went few inches wide.
