In the post-match press conference held following the end of the quarterfinal match of the Arabian Gulf Cup, Zoran Mamic said that Al Ain players did not take the advantage of the many opportunities they had in the right manner. “Indeed, in football matches if you do not score goals you will be punished. Commenting on a question whether the difference between the atmosphere of the two global and local competitions had a negative impact on the team’s performance, he said: “It is not an excuse to use the emotional language when it comes to compare between the Club World Cup and the Gulf Cup. Also, the team’s performance was not poor as we got lots of chances and the team was exhausted as we played 400 minutes within 10 days.”
He added: “We are professionals and we have to deal realistically with coming matches. Yes, playing in such a big event might happen once in any player’s life time but we have to think about the future as it is nonsense to live in the past and dream about the history. We are required to make a new history in each challenge we face at home and abroad.”
