Donis: Al Ain too ‘big’ to be shaken by missing 3 players

Georgios Donis, the Greek coach of Sharjah, said his men wasted several chances to score in the first half. “It is extremely important to seize every chance when playing against a strong team such as Al Ain”.
“The match was technically over when the foes were granted a penalty kick and we had to move on with only 10 players. I am very sad to miss many key players in the next encounters, namely Abdullah Ghanem who sustained a serious injury today. I will decide on his situation after he undergoes the necessary medical examinations”, he explained.
Talking to the press, Donis said: “Even though you are well-informed about Al Ain, you have little information about Sharjah. Last month, we lacked so many players that we had to engage foreign ones. In return, it is not a big deal for a great team like Al Ain to miss 2 or 3 players. When I was coaching Al-Hilal, I had 20 players ready for the match, and it never affected me to miss 2 or 3 of them”, Donis explained.
“If we had seized all the chances in the first half, the result would have been completely different”, he added.
Donis refrained to openly criticize the referees but it is high time for the UAE Football Association to further improve the performance of referees as they easily and simply decide on penalty kicks before being 100% of its authenticity.
