“The pre-match preparations for the Thursday’s big match against Al Wasl go as usual and as planned,” Ivan Leko, the head coach of Al Ain Team, stated in the pre-match press conference.

He added: “We focused on sustaining and boosting the strengths of the team and fixing negative points we witnessed during our past match against Ittihad Kalba. As I stated in the post-match media conference, I was annoyed for conceding two goals at home and among our grassroots.”

Hailing the stunning performance of Al Wasl against Al Nasr, Leo stated: “Al Wasl was not exactly off to their best start this season when they played against Al Nasr. They deserved to win despite the goalless draw. I have full confidence in my squad’s potentials of playing actively and achieve the desired positive result.”

Responding to a question on whether he will adopt a style of playing different from that he adopted in the previous match against Ittihad Kalba, he said: “Al Wasl has several quality players and capable backline. It will not be an easy match considering that they play as teamwork. They could easily switch from defense to attack swiftly. Playing against such big teams are always exciting and stimulate players to push themselves to the limit.”

“I do prefer the open play style in football matches as it is more exciting not only for the fans but for sports commentators, sports critic, and media representatives. Regardless of the style of playing we adopt; our sights are always set to win the opponent.”

As for Caio Canedo, Leko stated that he will not play the match against Al Wasl and hailed his quality as a professional player and one of the leaders of the squad.

Leko also confirmed that Mohammed Jamal will not play next match considering his injury and recuperation. “Jamal has already enrolled an intensive physiotherapy program and I wish him a speedy recovery. He enjoys quality skills and he is one of the most important and an added value players signed to the club this season.”
