Derby Matches Have a Special Nature

I have Nothing to Do with Al Wahda’s Results … We Set Up a Strategy for First and Second Leg Matches

“I believe we must work hard during this coming period. We have five matches to play within two weeks, and the most important issue is the recovery of the players,” Sergiy Rebrov opened the pre-match press conference of the first leg clash match of the quarterfinal of ADIB Cup against Al Wahda.

Al Ain Team head coach added: “Everybody knows that we won the title of this competition last season, and the coming match has a specialty, given that all matches we play against Al Wahda are big derby matches regardless of the competition.”

He pointed out that he is sure the players understand this aspect and must enjoy a high concentration level in the team’s match in this competition.

“Additionally, this is the first leg match, and still, we will play the second leg this week, and this requires that we have the right strategy to go through this competition,” he said.

He commented on the team’s improved results this season: “I have nothing to do whether Al Wahda wins or loses their matches. I am only focusing on my team’s affairs; particularly when we play at home, we must identify the opponent’s strengths. Again, regardless of the competition we are playing against Al Wahda, it will be a top match, and I am sure the players understand that.”

Sergiy Rebrov stated that he always addresses particular messages to the fans. He also commented: “We all saw the fans behind the team in our match against Dibba Al Fujairah. I will be happy to see them in the stands in our coming match against Al Wahda.”

He concluded his statement by saying: “I am sure that they come to support their favorite team and not when we are playing against a certain team like Dibba Al Fujairah or Al Wahda. So I ask them to come to the stadium and support the players. Their presence motivates the players and pushes them to play better.”
