Yaakov Shahar, President of Israel’s Maccabi Haifa Club, addressed a brief speech on occasion signing the MoU by saying: “I would like to extend my sincerest congratulations to Emirati and Israeli nations for signing the historic peace agreement.”

He pointed out: “Nothing important than peace among nations, and friendship and cordiality between human beings and sanctity of life. I have the pleasure to experience such a significant moment in the history of UAE and Israel football and sports in general.”

Yaakov also stated: “Sports turned to be a bridge that connects cultures and nations and a means of communications. Indeed, our new friendship ties with Al Ain is a brilliant example of that. This is a typical example of communication as Haifa is a great city that accommodates six different religions where citizens coexist peacefully and with love. They all share the love of life, sports, and football.”

“Since my early years, I was attached to sports as a fan and lover. This is my 29th year as the Maccabi Haifa Club president, and during these past years, we experienced unique cultural and sports processes. Today, I am proud of being the president of a Club that contributes to society, connects people and cultures, and educates children and young people on tolerance, loving sports, and respecting others regardless of their ethnicity, religion, or gender.

He added: “We, in Maccabi Haifa Club, are so proud to move ahead with Al Ain Club to enhance our mutual relationships further. We are confident that we have found the ideal partner, Al Ain Club, the biggest and largest grassroots in the UAE. The club is known for its outstanding achievements and whose vision aligns with our vision in joint sports culture and assists society in achieving a better future.”

The President of Haifa Maccabi Club concluded his statement by reciting a verse from the Holy Quran, surah Al Hujurat (49:13) “O mankind. Indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another.”

He indicated that he hopes that the cooperation between the two clubs will develop as a tall and shady tree with deep, strong roots, resilient branches, and green leaves that lead the two peoples together towards the future.
