Sports Games Legends
Over the past years, Al Ain Club Sports Games have witnessed many men and women in individual teams putting their names on the score sheets:
Athletics
Ali Khalifa Al Wahshi won a bronze medal for 10,000 meter run at the GCC Athletics Championship in Bahrain and a similar medal at the Arab Athletics Championship in Kuwait, March 2015. In May 2014, he was ranked among the top 15 runners at Zayed Charity Marathon in New York City. On December 31, 2013, he set a new record for 10,000 meter run at Zayed Marathon at Abu Dhabi.
Judged against 2012-2013 Season, the UAE Athletics Team for Men made great strides in 2014-2015 Season. The team scooped 64 golden medals compared to 36. The team was also ranked second at the GCC Town’s Race in Kuwait.
Swimming
Hamad Al Hashemi won two Silver medals in the 50 meter butterfly and 50 meter breaststroke, in addition to a bronze medal in the 100 meter breaststroke at the Men’s Second Arab Swimming Championship in Morocco on September 4-7, 2014.
In the 24th GCC Swimming Championship in Kuwait, three of Al Ain swimmers fared well:
- Yaqoub Yousef Al Saadi won three golden medals in the 50 meter breaststroke, 100 meter breaststroke and 200 meter breaststroke. He was also a silver medalist in the 100 meter backstroke.
- Mohamed Abdulla Al Ghafri claimed a gold medal in the 50 meter butterfly, a silver medal in the 50 meter backstroke.
- Ali Ahmad Al Kaabi won a gold medal in the 100 meter butterfly and a bronze medal in the 50 meter backstroke.
Al Ain Swimming team won two medal, 13 silver and 24 bronze medals at the GCC Short Lane Championship.
In 2013-2014 Season, both Ali Ahmad Al Kaabi and Yaqoub Yousef Al Saadi qualified for the Beijing 2014 Youth Olympic Games for the first time in UAE.
In the 2012-2013 Season, Yaqoub Yousef Al Saadi set five new records for 17-year old swimmers and two new records for 16-year old swimmers.
The gold medals tally gained by Al Ain Club swimming team, were 64, 79 and 137 in the 2014-2015, 2013-2014 and 2012-2013 Seasons, respectively.
Jiu-Jitsu
During the 2014-2015 Season, Al Ain Taekwondo Team scooped 16 gold medals compared to 12 in the 2012-2013 Season.
Taekwondo
Al Ain Women Taekwondo Team held the top spot in the rankings of UAE Open and also the first position in Bomsa Championship in the 2014-2015 Season. Wadha Saeed Al Saiari was certified as the Top Fighter UAE-wide for the same season.
Al Ain Men Taekwondo Team perched at the summit of the President’s Cup on May 16, 2015.
The team ended the 2014-2015 Season with a tally of 18 gold medals compared to seven in the season before
Handball
Al Ain Handball Team had put hands on the first title in the 1978-1979 Season.
In the 1980-1981 Season, the team made trip wins never paralleled UAE-wide by any other team before, where it claimed the Pro League trophy, the GCC Club Handball Championship held in Al Ain City during March 21-27, 1981, VI Arab Handball Championship of Winners’ Cup held in Jordan during August 21-29, 1981. These achievements were engraved in the golden record of Al Ain Club
Volleyball
Al Ain Club’s team games (volleyball, handball, basketball) are being practiced in two modern indoor halls located in Al Ain Sports Club and in Al Qattara Branch.
Men’s handball and volleyball teams gained significant scores, where the latter in particular, made impressive results by teams of all age groups during the past two seasons, while the Men’s team won the Zayed’s Cup in 2014-2015 Season and finished in second place in the overall standings of the League.
Handball teams of all age groups are making progress as evidenced by their results. Further heed is being paid currently to the Men’s team members to revive their glorious achievements as shown in the below details:
In line with its long-run strategy of boosting the basketball game, the AASGC management contracted with the proper technical staff, where promising steps were recently made when the basketball team participated in the Men’s tournament at the current season.
