In his post-match press conference, Zlatko Dalić, Al Ain’s Croatian coach, congratulated his player for their 3-1 win over Qatar’s El Jaish during the first leg of AFC semifinals. “We performed well especially in the first half where we lead 2-0; our efforts were rewarded,” he commented.

“During the halftime, I urged my players to keep attentive and focused because our rivals would attack more powerfully in the second half in an attempt to pull themselves back into the game. Eventually, they managed to score from a penalty.”

“I’m quite happy,” he continued “with the performance of my players who always try to be better. I’d like also to thank all fans who filled the stadium in support of the team.”

Commenting on the surprising participation of his keeper Khalid Issa, pointed out that Khalid had made great efforts to recover quickly under the supervision of the medical staffs; “He’s a fighting player who gave a hand in today’s victory; he always shows his strength, determination and defiance. I know that our backline players feel more powerful and confident when they are backed by Khalid; he can create the required balance,” he added.

Asked why he kept Mohamed Fayez at the bench, Zlatko reiterated that what distinguishes Al Ain from other teams is its team spirit; “Today, I’ll disclose a secret to you; Mohamed Fayez, Ibrahim Diaky and Saeed Al Katheeri are our treasure that we can’t do without,” he confirmed.

He pointed out that he did not listen to the shouts requiring him to get these three players into the game; “It’s not my style to unveil the team’s situation and the players’ readiness before each game,” he justified.
“Our next game in Doha won’t be easy; we’ll encounter a powerful team with excellent players; but we’re going there to win with due respect to the aspirations of our rivals.” he concluded.
