H.H. Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has congratulated Egyptians on qualification for the World Cup for the first time in 28 years.
Egypt, the record seven-time African champion, has suffered several heart-breaking defeats since it last qualified for the World Cup in 1990.
An injury-time penalty from Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah ensured Egypt victory over Congo 2-1 on Sunday to move into an unassailable position at the top of their group with one match still to complete.
“Congratulations to Egyptians for qualifying to the World Cup… the hearts of Emiratis and Arab chant the name of Egypt on such a historical occasion,” Shaikh Hazza tweeted.
